I have always admired the design style and decor of Michele, from Vintage Home Designs. Many of you may know her from Instagram or her online store. Michele has an eye for all things design, and she can transform any space into something lovely.
In late December I had the privilege to tour her newest design project, and it was a stunner! She had just finished this adorable Boho Cottage in Rockwall, Texas. The best part? You can rent the cottage on Airbnb!
Our Interview with Michele
What inspired you to convert this adorable home into an Airbnb?
We originally purchased the house as a rental property and our first tenants were my daughter and son in law. They recently moved to another city, so we decided to try the cottage as an Airbnb rather than a long term rental.
Did you make any changes to the cottage? Floors, light fixtures, etc.?
When we first purchased the house we changed all the light fixtures, cabinet hardware, bathroom mirrors, faucets, etc. We repainted all the interior, including the cabinets, fireplace and front door. We also took up all the carpet and laid laminate wood floors.
I love your decor style. How did you decorate the boho cottage and still stick to your typical aesthetic?
The boho cottage is a mix of vintage, cottage and bohemian style which are all styles I love. My daughter had the home decorated in an eclectic boho style when she lived there, so I decided to stay with that look.
How long have you been renting the cottage on Airbnb?
We first listed the property on Airbnb in mid December 2018. We have already had several renters including a family that stayed for the Christmas holiday.
Where did you find the decor items for the cottage?
Some of the items used in the cottage were things I already owned or were things from my shop, Vintage Home. I went to lots of estate sales and thrift stores for furniture and wall décor pieces, as well. The only items that were purchased new are the mattresses, bedding, and towels. I loved shopping for and furnishing the cottage, because I have a passion for thrifting and I love thinking of new ways to use second hand pieces.
