I can remember back to 1997 when my parents were building a home, and my mom chose a deep burgundy for our formal dining room. Of course they let me pick my room’s color, and I asked for a bright, cheery yellow. At the time, those colors were life! I was so proud to show off my light yellow room to all my friends. Oh how times have changed!
Twenty some years later those colors make this neutral loving minimalist cringe. I am all about the natural and bright colors, only if they are in the white and gray family. I have started to expand my color palette to the deep, dark blacks and blues. I love how this color on a wall can really make a room pop. However, committing to one of those dark colors still hasn’t happened at Casa de Koko. Commitment issues hold me back from going for this major change. I have contemplated changing the color of our island to a deep, black that would give contrast to our all white layout. I love what Shop Farmhouse Living’s Shelby did in her kitchen renovation. The contrast of the black cabinets and the white subway tile make for a beautiful combination.
I have also contemplated changing a wall in our entry way to a darker gray or even black. I am all about the dramatic pop of the trending colors for this year. Here is another inspiration shot that really gives life to this kitchen. The black island with wood details make for an amazing touch.
