Styling shelves can be hard, especially if you don’t even know where to start. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong as long as you like it. I try and stick to these basic rules when decorating shelves.
Mix textures
After choosing a color palette, try and mixture different textures. Wood, metal, and seagrass baskets give texture to the shelves without making them look too cluttered. Baskets are also great for storage and hiding items you don’t want out. I use the seagrass baskets to hide all my office supplies and electronic cords.
Add Height
Adding height to the shelves gives contrast to the other items. This will give balance to the shelves. Items with height should be added next to something shorter or stacks of books.
Keep it Simple
Clutter can make your shelves look junkie. Keeping a simple layout with minimal items on each shelf will make your items stand out. I like to gather all the items I am going to use, and from there I start to weed out items that don’t go with my favorite pieces.
