Holiday Table Setting

Whether you are the hostess with the mostest or not, it can be fun to create a tablescape for your holiday guests. These are the tips and tricks I like to use when creating a table setting for entertaining.

Use what you already have

I start by going through what I already have, and finding ways I can repurpose items. The main reason I do this is to save money; however, I have found it also saves me time from having to shop around. You may also find that items you forgot about when you start searching around. Do not be afraid to mix and match different plates and cups to your table setting, this can create a fun mix of textures and styles.

The items I already had around the house were:

  • candle sticks
  • cutting boards
  • Christmas garland (from last year)
  • pine cones (from last year)
  • wooden log slices
  • butcher paper (I use it as wrapping paper year-round)

The items I purchased and did not spend over $20

  • gold flatware
  • ramekins

Play with texture

I like to add in different textures to each of my table settings by placing natural elements with pine cones, garland, faux or real floral, etc. We all have our own style, so use what you think feels right for your decor. If you are more of a farmhouse style, you might want to add magnolia leaves to your tablescape. If you like simple, neutral decor eucalyptus is always a great addition to any table setting. I chose to use faux pine garland for my Christmas tablescape this year with pine cones placed throughout.

Use different heights in the center

For your centerpiece be sure to add elements with differing heights. Candle sticks are an easy way to add height to a tablescape. I like to use brass or gold tapered candle sticks. Adding a floral centerpiece with different heights makes a huge statement and can then be used in other areas of the home after the holidays.
